Tzevat TEFİK was born in Komotini, Greece in 1979. He completed his secondary education at Komotini 2nd High School in Komotini. He graduated from Istanbul University, Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Uğur Derman English Medical Program in 2004.

After completing his urology specialization training at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Department of Urology in 2011, he continued his work as a specialist doctor at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Department of Urology between 2011 and 2017. He received his Associate Professorship title in 2017. He was appointed to the Professorship position at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Department of Urology on March 6, 2024.

Tzevat TEFİK is a member of prominent urology associations such as the American Urological Association, the European Association of Urology, the Endourological Society, the International Alliance of Urolithiasis, and the Asian Urological Society of Endoluminal Surgery and Technology. He participates in the FANS International Study Group and the European Association of Urology – Endourology Technology Monitoring Study Groups, and is a founding member of the Kidney Stone Academy and the Progress in EndoUrology Training and Research Association.

He has over ninety-five international articles and more than 300 national and international presentations. His Google Scholar H-index is 25, his WOS H-index is 18, and his articles have received over 1685 citations by May 2026. He serves as the associate editor of the Istanbul Medical Faculty Journal and as the academic editor of PLOS One and BMC Urology.

He completed his training in flexible ureterorenoscopy at the Sorbonne University in Paris in 2015 under the supervision of Oivier Traxer. Professor Tzevat Tefik, possessing extensive surgical experience, has personally performed or participated in over 5000 genitourinary surgeries since becoming a specialist in 2011.

Professor Tefik’s academic interests include robotic endourology and the application of artificial intelligence in urology. He has deep expertise, particularly in robot-assisted retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) and endourological technologies. He was the first person to initiate assistant training in robot-assisted RIRS worldwide and to perform live surgeries internationally using robot-assisted RIRS procedures with artificial intelligence integration. His professional activities blend clinical practice, research, and mentoring, focusing on advancing innovation and education in urology to improve patient outcomes. He teaches Urinary System Stone Disease courses to undergraduate students at Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine.

He currently works as an Professor in the Department of Urology at Istanbul Faculty of Medicine and is married with one child.
